smoothie

A smoothie has a texture, main flavors, and any number of supplemental
flavors. I always start with a few cubes of ice and a scoop of vanilla
icecream. Then I add fruit, finally honey or sugar, then milk until
the solid ingredients are 3/4 submerged.

Bananas make an excellent base since they are unobtrusive and blend
well. Egg and sugar -- that is, eggnog -- if you like the taste, make
the drink fluffier. You can also try whipping cream or yogurt.

Juice from concentrate works too. With hard fruits you have to worry
about leaving chunky bits behind. Frozen soft fruits like strawberries
are good, and you can use less ice.

Some good combos, with ingredients in order of precedence and I almost
always add a bit of honey:

- banana, cinnamon
- peanut butter, chocolate
- watermelon, strawberry, coconut
- peaches, sweet orange juice, banana, yogurt, coconut, sugar
- banana, granola, honey

Things which don't work:

- peaches by themselves (unless really sweet ones)
- kiwis with anything, AFAICT
- careful with weak watermelons
- whole oranges (too much pulp)
- canteloupe needs thorough mixing or it leaves chunky bits

Nothing ever becomes real till it is experienced -- even a proverb is no
proverb to you till your life has illustrated it.
