strange loops

For example, by recognizing that my motives are usually selfish, I can see that, to get myself to behave more altruistically, I have to train myself to enjoy altruistic behaviours more. The irony of this meta-reflection --- am I being altruistic in wanting to be altruistic? --- doesn't escape me. It is a consequence of trying to mix levels; trying to see myself as deterministic and free-willed at the same time. A fun excercise.
