interconnections

Reiser talks about the number of interconnections between elements of a system being more important than the number of elements. Notice that the number of different interconnections is also important; the more interfaces that have to be maintained, the more likely it is some will break. Which is why unifying as many of the interconnections as possible is desirable.

... The biggest problem with dating today is the notion of "compatibility"
itself ... The way to perservere in a relationship is to believe with all your
heart that any relationship is potentially compatible if you put enough work
into it. What "compatibility" really seems to mean in relationships that work
out is "I finally decided to commit myself to making it work".
