language aquisition

Language aquisition is a tangled hierarchy; you can learn and visualize new words just by reading, by building upon the words you know, and these in turn influence your interpretation of old words.

The great thing about learning a new language is that, when you have to struggle just to express yourself, you stop worrying about trying to sound impressive.

When a language gains a large body of non-native speakers, the dynamics of its evolution change. Specifically, I'd say change is dampened, by the weight of speakers who are going by rules learned from books -- always slightly behind the cutting edge.

I think the world is ready for the story of an ugly duckling, who grew up to
remain an ugly duckling, and lived happily ever after.
