Jane Austen--Pride and Prejudice

Roxane: How do I convince my (male) roomate to read Pride and Prejudice?

Serious answer: I think the main thing is you have to remember Austen wrote practically everything tongue-in-cheek. If all the little artificial rules in society seem silly to you, she pokes fun at them in a big way. You also have to have a soft spot for stupid people in love, and love listening to gossip.

Not-serious answer: chicks really dig it.

I need to reread this.

"The poor don't know that their function in life is to exercise our generosity."
