I've commented on this before, but here it is again: http://www.marshallbrain.com/robotic-nation.htm

Technology is a good thing -- it means making your life better but not at the expense of anybody else. A robot is about to replace your job. Here's the funny thing: if you own that robot, then technology has done what it is supposed to -- you now get to enjoy a lot more free time, even if you take a big cut in your salary, so everybody is happy. On the other hand, if your manager owns the robot, then you are jobless.

Naturally, your manager would rather just fire you and buy a robot themselves than pay you to buy a robot. The class difference increases, the elite becomes more entrenched and more useless. Is it really true that the only way out is to put the entire lower class on welfare?

Yet again we see how technology in itself cannot be a force for good (or evil).

It is better to have loved and lost -- much better.
