Interview with God on free will.

A strange story. Jeff Bridge and one of his friends came to visit me. We were having a snack at Kirby Lane, and got to talking about my new place. I mentioned how cool it was that one of my roommates is a girl CS major who is also an artist. Jeff's friend asked who she was. I said, come on, there's no way you know her, I mean, that personality type isn't so strange -- most girls weird enough to be CS majors are also weird enough to be artist hippies. Does she like faeries? he asked. Of course, I said. What's her name? he asked.

Oh, it's, um, Allison, Sh --

-- Fucking Allison Sharp! he interrupts me.

Wow. How do you know her? We talk about it and chuckle. Then Josh (the friend) whips out a copy of Jung's Synchronicity, slamming it onto the table. There is an awed moment of silence, and then we all double over laughing.

We're strange.

"How can I tell," said the man, "that the past isn't a fiction designed to
account for the discrepancy between my immediate physical sensations and my
state of mind?"
