So how about that ruling on the Pledge of Allegiance? Are we a Christian nation? What about the 1797 Treaty of Tripoli?

Here's a great quote from k5:

In the light of the public response, the legal doctrine that will soon be used to overturn this ruling should read something like "These little references to God here and there are of course de minimis and meaningless, but DON'T YOU DARE TOUCH THEM YOU GODLESS BASTARD!"

On the religion topic, this is the best satire of fundamentalism I've ever read.

I think nobody reads my brain. That's too bad because it's usually more interesting than what I post here. Well, here's the thought for today:

The primary goal of any sufficiently large organization is to justify and promote its own existence. This goal takes precedence over ANY other, even those that the organization was ostensibly founded upon. "Sufficiently large" means large enough that no single individual can take control of the organization -- at this point you get emergent behaviour and the organization begins to function like an organism.

This is the primary danger of government.

"The only 'intuitive' interface is the nipple. After that, it's all learned."
